Kinda of a lame set up for the joke. But I did want to emphesize the importants of the Hearts Faction in the suit league. All rookies start out as clubs, experienced normals become the spades, and experienced supers become the hearts. (two wich there are 1 or 2, as most super powered heros are clubs.)
Looking back though. That really wasn't an important detail to the story. I could have easily left it as subtext.
